From Bare to Beautiful - Check out This Before and After

At David’s Flooring of Seattle, we love turning houses into dream homes — and this full downstairs renovation is a perfect example of what’s possible when expert flooring installation meets thoughtful design. In this recent project, we completely transformed the kitchen, living room, entryway, and more, giving our client a fresh, modern, and functional space that’s built to impress.

Whether you're considering a home upgrade or are just looking for inspiration, this before-and-after is proof of what high-quality flooring and smart renovations can do.

Before: A Work in Progress

In the before photo, the kitchen was clearly under renovation. While the layout and cabinetry were in place, the room lacked warmth and character. The plywood subfloor was still exposed, and the finishes had yet to bring the design together.

Without finished flooring, the space felt incomplete — lacking the visual foundation that ties a kitchen together. That’s where our team stepped in.

After: Warmth, Elegance, and a Complete Transformation

The after image reveals a remarkable transformation. Wide-plank light oak hardwood flooring now stretches across the kitchen, instantly elevating the space with natural warmth and a timeless, modern aesthetic. The newly installed floors complement the white cabinetry, matte black appliances, and stunning waterfall-edge quartz island.

Details matter — and this finished floor provides a flawless base for every other design element in the room. The soft, neutral tones of the wood enhance the brightness of the space, while subtle graining adds texture and depth.

Before: A Blank Canvas in Progress

In the before photo, the living room was clearly mid-renovation. While the built-in shelves and stone fireplace provided a strong architectural foundation, the room was far from complete. The plywood subfloor was still exposed.

Without finished flooring, the room felt cold and unfinished — missing the warmth and cohesion that only quality flooring can provide.

After: Style, Comfort, and a Stunning Foundation

The after image reveals a striking transformation. Wide-plank light oak floors now flow across the space, instantly bringing warmth, texture, and modern elegance to the room. The new flooring pairs beautifully with the crisp white built-ins, soft gray fireplace tile, and rich leather seating.

Every detail was considered. The soft, neutral tones of the hardwood enhance the room’s natural light and provide a sophisticated contrast to the dark furnishings. With the floors complete, the living room feels not just finished — but elevated, welcoming, and ready to be lived in.

Before: A Stairway Needing a Fresh Start.

The entryway is the first impression of a home — and this one was waiting for its transformation.

After: Inviting, Comfortable, and Beautifully Balanced

The after image reveals a refreshed, welcoming space. The staircase has been fully recarpeted with a soft, neutral-toned carpet that adds comfort and a quiet, elegant texture underfoot. Just below, wide-plank hardwood flooring now anchors the entryway, introducing natural warmth and a refined, modern look.

The contrast between the plush carpet and the clean-lined hardwood creates a layered, sophisticated aesthetic that feels both polished and practical. Whether you're stepping in or heading upstairs, this space now offers a seamless blend of durability, comfort, and timeless design.

Why Whole-House Flooring Renovations Matter

When It Comes to Flooring, the Finishing Touches Matter Whether you’ve chosen hardwood, laminate, luxury vinyl plank (LVP), or engineered flooring, transition moldings are the key to a professional, long-lasting, and safe installation. Four of the most important types are T-molds, reducers, end caps , and stair noses. Lets break down what each one does, where it’s used, and why it’s crucial to your floor's function and appearance. What Is a T-Mold? T-molding is shaped like the letter "T" and is used to create a smooth transition between two floors of equal height. It's most commonly used between rooms or areas with the same flooring type, such as from the kitchen to the living room or hallway. Benefits of T-Molds: Seamlessly connects two flooring surfaces Allows for natural expansion and contraction Prevents tripping hazards Enhances the clean, finished look of your flooring Best Used For: Doorways between rooms with laminate or LVP Large open floor plans with expansion breaks What Is a Reducer? A reducer bridges the height gap between two types of flooring—usually where one is lower than the other. For example, where luxury vinyl meets concrete or hardwood meets low-pile carpet. Benefits of Reducers: Provides a gradual, safe transition between floors of different heights Reduces tripping hazards Protects the edge of your flooring from chipping or damage Creates a polished, professional appearance Best Used For: Transitions from hard surface flooring (wood, LVP, tile) to vinyl or concrete Commercial or residential spaces with varying floor elevations What Is an End Cap (Square Nose)? An end cap , also called a square nose , is used to "cap off" the end of flooring where it meets a different surface that doesn’t require transition—like a sliding glass door, fireplace, or entrance mat. Benefits of End Caps: Neatly finishes flooring edges Prevents fraying, chipping, and moisture seepage Enhances aesthetic and functional detail at stopping points Best Used For: Flooring that ends at exterior doors or built-in fixtures Areas transitioning to carpet, tile thresholds, or exposed concrete What Is a Stair Nose? A stair nose (also known as bullnose or stair tread cap) is the molding piece that goes on the edge of a step, where the horizontal tread meets the vertical riser. Benefits of Stair Noses: Provides extra grip and wear resistance on stairs Protects the edge of the flooring on stair treads Adds a safe and elegant finish to any staircase Helps match stairs to the rest of the flooring Best Used For: All types of staircases with wood, laminate, or LVP Landings or single-step drops within a home Why Transition Moldings Matter for Your Floor’s Lifespan These transition pieces don’t just add beauty—they protect your investment. They allow your floors to expand and contract naturally, protect edges from wear and tear, and make walking safer by preventing uneven surfaces and tripping hazards. At Davids Flooring of Seattle, we include professional transition installations as part of every flooring project to ensure your new floors are not only beautiful but built to last.
